Maker Meetup

Playing a banana piano.

Drawing from the exciting worldwide Do-It-Yourself movement, students will learn to create,  design, and build a variety of projects —from electronics to mechanical devices, crazy crafts to high-tech design — learning how each works along the way.  Projects will include soldering a blinking robot button, creating a paddle boat from a soda bottle,  sewing soft circuits, playing the banana piano, molding and casting toys, screen printing, giant spin art, building with LEGOs , making balsa wood planes and much more. Suggested class time: 90 minutes/week for 8 weeks. Classes customized for Grades K-3, 4-8 or 9-12. 10 student minimum for booking. Book it now!

The Web of Life

wolExplore the amazing beauty of the natural world and everything that lives in it through this fun life science program. The Web of Life is an exciting, hands on exploration of taxonomy — the classification of life forms. Activities include: the study of samples such as skeletons, skulls, and preserved specimens; using microscopes to examine tiny creatures in pond scum; creating scientific drawings and field guides; playing fun games and writing our own science fiction stories Explore the amazing beauty of the natural world and everything that lives in it through this fun life science program. Suggested class time: 60-90 minutes/week for 8 weeks. Junk Box Wars

20130206_114953Using nothing more than “junk” students will work in teams to meet a new crazy challenge every week. They’ll use their imaginations and scientific knowledge to create a variety of devices that perform an all kinds of tasks. The projects target technological design standards and provide excellent engineering and design projects. Challenges will include super slingers, rocket rallies, bottle blasters, zoom machines, and more! As Thomas Edison said, “To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.” Suggested class time: 60-90 minutes/week for 8 weeks. Classes customized for Grades K-8. 10 student minimum for booking. Book it now!

Mythbusters

mythbustersBased on the hugely popular T.V. show, students will use the scientific method to determine if each week’s myth or legend is confirmed, plausible or denied. Now you can bring their signature mix of the scientific method, gleeful curiosity and elbow-grease ingenuity to your child’s life. Experiments may include the Killer Card Toss, Dodge a Bullet, Running in the Rain, Change like a Superhero, Tablecloth Chaos, Toast Butter Side Up and Blind Driving. Explore science the Mythbusters way and be sure to “Try this at home!” Suggested class time: 60-90 minutes/week for 8 weeks. Classes customized for Grades K-8. 10 student minimum for booking. Book it now!

Water, Water Everywhere

Building submarines.

In this exciting class, students will explore fun water-themed science projects. They’ll make paddle boats powered by rubber bands, build sailboats with rudders, challenge themselves to see how many pennies they can stack in a raft made of aluminum foil, trap classmates in giant bubbles, create artwork with Japanese floating inks and make submarines from recycled water bottles. Though great in the classroom, it’s even better poolside so students can take their creations into the water to play! Suggested class time: 60 minutes/week for 8 weeks.  All ages. 10 student minimum for booking. Book it now!

Coding for Beginners

computersLearn to create simple computer games, animation and more using Blockly, Scratch and more! These free, visually-based computer languages create an easy to explore online experience where students can program and share interactive media with others from all over the world. As students create develop their skills, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. Students should be able to read independently and have access to a laptop or school computer lab. Intermediate and Advanced classes also available. Suggested class time: 60-90 minutes/week for 4-8 weeks. Classes customized for Grades 4-9, independent reading skills needed.  10 student minimum for booking. Book it now!

TREP$: Empowering Kids through Entrepreneurship

trepsThe TREP$ program is the award-winning, entrepreneurship education program where students learn the basics of business. Kids love entrepreneurship — it’s creative, empowering, and money-making! And since the kids decide what type of product they want to sell, according to their own interests or hobbies, TREP$ reaches the kids that traditional school subjects sometimes can’t. They choose success as their goal and learn the path that will take them there. The experience even culminates with a unique flea-market style event in which all of the vendors are our students! Suggested class time: 60 minutes/week for 6 weeks plus Marketplace Event. Classes customized for Grades 4-8. 12 student minimum for booking. Book it now!

Super Secret Science Challenge

image266You never know what’s waiting for you when you take the Super Secret Science Challenge! One bag of mystery stuff. One hour to build. One super fun class! Are you up for it? Centered around a continuing spy theme with fun agents and villains, each week students will get the chance to work with a team as they design, craft and build a machine or structure in this exciting science and engineering class that has lots of room for creativity and exploration, all while learning important concepts in physics!! Suggested class time: 60 minutes/week for 4 weeks. Classes customized for Grades K-8. 10 student minimum for booking. Book it now!

Dirty Work

dirtyLearn the basics of soil science while having lots of messy fun! Explore soil chemistry and learn to “type” soil like a pro. Learn the secrets of earthworms, the wiggly wonders that drive decomposition. Then, ride the rock cycle and test real stone and minerals samples. Discover all that the fossil record has to tell us about the mystery of life on earth. This is a great experiential study of Earth, physical and life sciences. As an optional 5th week add–on students can explore the differences between the Earth and moon, using real NASA rock and soil samples. Suggested class time: 90 minutes/week for 4 weeks. Classes customized for Grades 3-8. 10 student minimum for booking. Book it now!

The Chem Lab

chemGet a great introduction to chemical reactions of all types with this exciting laboratory class. Through fun hands-on experiments, students will explore pH, color changing chemistry, exothermic and endothermic reactions, states of matter, polymers and much more. Safely explore dry ice! Build molecules! Create crystals! Make slime! Be blown away by fantastic demonstrations!
